Fayard Freret Women's Leadership Scholarship Applications Due

The Krewe of Freret flourishes thanks in major part to the significant contributions of women in various leadership roles within the organization. Consequently, it makes sense to support the ongiong advancement of women's leadership in New Orleans. This scholarship, "Fayard Freret Women's Leadership Award", is named in honor of the Krewe of Freret President, Kacie Fayard. Kacie developed her leadership skills at Loyola University New Orleans and subseuquently played a pivotal role in leading and growing the organization. 

Attached is an application for the first annual Leadership Scholarship awarded by Krewe of Freret. The scholarship is open to all residents in the State of Louisiana who are high school seniors or graduating community/technical college students and that hold a leadership position within their school/work/community. The scholarship check will be made payable to the higher education institution to be attended. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000. The scholarship check will be mailed directly to the institution.

Please read the following carefully:

  • DEADLINE for scholarship applications is Sunday June 8, 2025.

  • Refer to criteria below for eligibility requirements.

  • Refer to the application process below for a list of the supporting documents needed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Scholarship winner will be notified via email no later than Monday June 16, 2025.

  • Scholarship winner is eligible for a lunch in New Orleans with the current President of Krewe of Freret.

  • Scholarship check in the amount of $1000 will be made payable to the higher education institution to be attended and the check will be mailed directly to the institution.

Criteria:

  • Applicant must be a resident in the State of Louisiana.

  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or graduating community/technical college student in the year of the award. 

  • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    Applicant must hold a leadership role/position within their school/work/or community to be eligible.

  • Applicant must be actively involved in school and community activities.

  • Applicant must demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities supporting women.

Applicant must submit the following items:

  •  Completed electronic application form.

  •  An official high school or community/technical college transcript with cumulative grade point average.

  •  Essay.  In your essay, please answer the following questions on the enclosed essay form (500 words maximum).   How have you made a positive impact in your leadership position?  What are your long-range goals for leadership and how will earning your college degree benefit/support these goals?

  • Letter of Recommendation. Letter may come from a teacher, counselor, administrator, employer, clergy, community leader, mentor, etc.; not a family member.
