2024 VIPs Rider Rules, Agreements, Waiver and Release of Liability

IMPORTANT RULES
1. When riding wear harness at all times. Anyone seen without a harness will be removed from the float immediately.  Harnesses and the Krewe of Freret costumes MUST be returned to your Float Lieutenant BEFORE you disembark at the end of the parade. Do NOT leave them on your float, and do NOT throw them on the ground outside of your float.

2. Wear your mask at all times. Your face cannot be visible to patrons at any point in the parade. If you need to take your mask off for ANY reason, make sure your face is not visible to parade patrons. This is a long-standing tradition in Mardi Gras and one we will uphold at all costs. The parade will be filmed from several undisclosed locations and any rider seen not wearing a mask will be fined $250 and may be prohibited from riding in the future (this is a city ordinance). Sunglasses DO NOT count as a mask. This is strictly enforced.

3. “POLICE” Signs are on every float. If there is a problem on or off the float that requires police attention, hold up the sign to get the attention of the closest officer. NOPD is trained to respond to the signs. Please communicate all emergency actions with your Float Lieutenant.

4. Do not throw any throw items until the parade turns onto Napoleon. No Items are permitted to be thrown while we proceed to formation or during formation. This applies to the end of the route as well.  Nothing is to be thrown after the parade route ends and prior to disembarkment.

5. After the parade, do not get off the float until it returns to Mardi Gras World. Floats will stop and reorganize after the parade is complete on Tchoup and then proceed to Mardi Gras World. Stay on your float until it is completely stopped. Do not get off for ANY reason.  Any rider that gets off the float during the parade will NOT be allowed back on.

6. There is no smoking, vaping, etc. on any float.

7. Once we leave Mardi Gras World and head to formation, ALL riders must remain on the floats. We will only be in formation for a short time for float inspection. Please do not get off the float!

8. Throws that depict any company, or could be perceived as advertising in ANY way, are strictly prohibited.
8.a Do not throw anything politically motivated or offensive.
8.b Do not throw items with a religious message.
8.c Do not throw any item excessively hard or intended to harm a patron.
8.d Do not throw any “packs” of beads without unwrapping them first.
8.e Cardboard cannot be brought onto floats or thrown either during formation or on the route.
8.f Do not throw any type of liquids, objects with sharp or dangerous points, any type of animal (dead or alive, including insects or marine life.)
8.g Do not throw any type of sexually oriented device.
Throws can be dangerous if common sense is not exercised. Please be mindful and respectful of patrons. All of these rules come directly from the City of New Orleans municipal code: Chapter 34, Article 5.

9. Listen to your Float Lieutenant. They have the final say in all matters on your float.

10. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE RIDE!
